Balkan Trafik

This weekend I finally attended Balkan Trafik in Bozar, the yearly cultural festival on Balkan music and culture. The costumes of these dancers remind me of voodoo culture, but they are actually from Bulgaria. They’re called Kukeri from Rakovski and this cultural practice is recognized by UNESCO as intangible world heritage. Goosebumps, this resonates on a deep, preintellectual level. I like! The 12th edition of Balkan Festival will end with a Giant Horo on de Grote Markt van Brussel, from 13hrs on. Come and have a dance!

  1. Do you see a contrast between voodoo culture and Balkan? I have reason to believe that voodoo is widespread over there. Still, very catching video.

    1. I believe voodoo is essential to the human experience. But somehow, science and capitalism took over and claim they offer the only possible road to the future. This hybris will prove to be fatal. 8)
